Aunt Molly’s ground cherry
$4.00
Physalis peruviana. Basically a small tomatillo but fruity and sweet, with penny-sized husks wrapping orange fruits that fall to the ground when ripe. Kids love them, and so do I – they can be dried, or eaten fresh right off the plant or made into salsas, chutneys and jams. High pectin content. Flavor is mild and tropical, yields are prolific. Very easy to grow, frost intolerant. 65 days.
